Driver's licence & Additional driver:

Driver's licence: A full licence held for minimum of 2 years with no major endorsements. UK licence holders need to present the photocard. If your driver's licence is not in the Roman alphabet (i.e. if it is in Arabic, Greek, Cyrillic or Chinese) you are required to bring an International Driving Permit and your domestic licence. For driving licenses from countries not part of the international driving license treaty, an official translation of the license must be presented with the original license. When renting within the EU, customers who do not hold a driving licence issued by an EU/EEA country or Switzerland must also present an International Driving Permit along with their domestic licence. UK driving licence holders must present their photocard when hiring a vehicle within the UK or the Republic of Ireland. Customers must go to https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence to create a one-time passcode. This passcode is valid for 21 days and must be presented when picking up your rental vehicle. For more details, please visit https://www.gov.uk/government/news/driving-licence-changes. Please note that Northern Ireland issued licence holders still need to present the paper counterpart. Non-domestic travel: when renting a vehicle at an airport in the UK, you may be required to provide travel documentation confirming dates of arrival and departure in the UK. Additional driver: Additional drivers can be added to your rental for a charge of 9.5 EUR per day. (Excludes tax). Please pay for additional drivers at the rental desk when picking up your vehicle.

Useful Information

Driver's age

25 to 75 years.

Customers who fall outside the age limitations will not be able to hire a car unless there is a young or senior driver fee specified in this section. Please note that if applicable, this fee will be included in the rental price and will be payable on arrival at the rental desk in the local currency.

Travel Restrictions

Hertz vehicles may be driven into Northern Ireland with no restrictions.

Hertz vehicles may be driven into the U.K. Mainland but not into other countries.

If driving into the UK Mainland, you must purchase a supplementary "Breakdown Insurance" (provided by the AA):

The AA will only cover residents of Ireland travelling to the UK in a hire vehicle providing they are returning the vehicle back to Ireland.

Non-Ireland residents cannot purchase this cover, so therefore if they decide to travel to the UK mainland will be liable for all costs to repatriate the vehicle back to Ireland in the event of a breakdown or an accident.

Should these restrictions be ignored all insurance (Third Party Liability, CDW, TP, PAI, Super Cover), if accepted, shall be deemed, null and void. The driver will be held fully responsible in case of accidents and will bear all consequences, including the cost of repatriation of the damaged vehicle.

If you intend to drive into Central London, please be aware of Lower Emission Zones.
